NavOffroad GIS Data
A collection of GIS data files and sources. Use them with the NavOffroad iPad® and iPhone® app, NavOffroad Planner or many other GIS applications.

National mapping agencies often provide public map data.
For example, the Ordnance Survey in the United Kingdom provides local map data. You can download an area in GeoTIFF format and convert it to PMTiles to import into the NavOffroad iPad® and iPhone® app.
In the USA, you can download US Government topographic maps in GeoPDF format and convert them to PMTiles. Similarly, the US Bureau of Land Management has many useful maps for different states.
GPX and KML files are widely available online through mapping websites, hiking and off-road communities, and shared trail databases. Keep in mind that the accuracy and quality of these files can vary, so it's best to review them before use.
These data provide color-coded land use for the western states in both GeoJSON and PMTiles format. Note that the PMTiles (Protomaps Tiles) format is preferred over GeoJSON for large datasets because only the data needed for the current map view are loaded.
Note: When importing PMTiles land use files into the NavOffroad iPad® and iPhone® app, select the 'Areas' layer. The 'Lines' layer is hidden by default due to the complexity of the feature geometry.

These data provide wilderness areas in GeoJSON and PMTiles formats for all states. The color indicates the land manager.

You can get historical maps from the Topo Map Explorer. Click the map at your desired location and then select one of the maps displayed in the left sidebar. Right click on the download button and copy the link, e.g.,

Use the link to import the map into the NavOffroad iPad® and iPhone® app, NavOffroad Planner or other GIS applications.
If you download the GeoTIFF (or GeoPDF) file, then use the NavOffroadConverter to convert it to a PMTiles file.
You can download GeoJSON files to import from the categories on the U.S. Forest Service - Geospatial Data Discovery web page. Use the filters to select your area and the data you need (e.g., name and latitude/longitude). Select the download button and choose the GeoJSON option.

You can use the NavOffroadConverter desktop application to convert GeoPDF and GeoTIFF files to PMTiles. Copy the resulting PMTiles file to your device for offline use in the NavOffroad iPad and iPhone app.
